FIREBALL RESTORATION AND PROMOTION

Fireball Australia has started to put together the two boats that it plans to send to Western Australia to try and build up a fleet at Mandurah.

We have been enthused by the response we have had from Mandurah, who have already arranged more than 20 potential Fireball sailors to try out the boats.

Due to our limited budget - $1500 for the two boats – we have been left with a pretty big challenge. We don’t want to send over boats that are overweight, run down or falling to bits as this will only put them off the class.

To ensure we can supply boats that will do the job we need your help.

So far we have sourced two snowball hulls that are close to minimum.  Both are quite old and need a bit of love.

The first is a bare hull with a couple of layers of paint on it plus plenty of dirt an mould.  Ben has taken it upon himself to sand this boat back to near bare glass, patch it up and respray it so it should come up looking the goods.  From her we need to fit it out and put a rig, foils and sails on it.

The second boat is Trilogy, the Victorian Association boat that they have kindly offered to us to use. This boat is in better condition but may still need a bit of hull work , a wet rub and a good buff and polish.  This boat has spars and foils but will probably need newer ropes, sails and a few fittings.

We know that over the years we all tend to build up a stock pile of spares, so hopefully if we all go through our bits and pieces and contribute what we can, we can put together enough to get the boats up and running.

Below is a list of roughly what we need to get together.

  • ·        Mast

  • ·        Spinnaker Pole

  • ·        Jibs

  • ·        Main Sails

  • ·        Spinnakers

  • ·        Centreboard to suit a snowball

  • ·        Hatch covers

  • ·        Main sheets

  • ·        Jib sheets

  • ·        Spinnaker sheets

  • ·        Trolley

  • ·        Cleats

  • ·        Exit blocks

  • ·        Pulleys

  • ·        Strut track and car

  • ·        Jib tracks, blocks and posts

  • ·        Spinnaker bags

  • ·        Covers

  • ·        Other fittings that you think would be useful.

For the bigger items we don’t expect to get things for free. As we have said we have a $1500 budget so please give Ben  a call on 0400 991 606 if you think you have anything of use.

We need to have these boats ready for opening day so please don’t delay – remember every bit helps!!!!
